Classmates (Part 1)

During high school, we mingle with our classmates who stay in the same region while in college we have classmates from all over Malaysia. I was formally from a girls’ school and now I meet guys in college. Both sexes’ characters are very much different from one another. Really can’t imagine what people can do sometimes. But not to worry, they are all nice fellers. The population of my class is 88.24% guys and 11.76% girls. I wonder why not many girls are into IT field.

Now let me introduce you to some of my classmates…

Here are the “Happy-go-lucky people who live the day as though there is no tomorrow.

*Sigh* All work and no play makes APIIT student a dull person.

Of course there are some who take things easy.

This is my "Practical English" group. One of the members is from Nigeria, a cool guy to hang out with and he is our Class Rep. Although he’s a foreigner, he mixes well with the group.

Do come back again for more updates! :)

Assignments

As the mid term approaches, assignments beginning to accumulate week after week and by time we realised it we got over 5 datelines to meet. College works are much more hectic compared to high school where assignments are expected to finish in a short period of time. Obviously there are some that have the tendency of doing last minutes work. Like the other day for one particular assignment, almost everyone on my MSN list states something regarding doing last minute assignment on their nick and do not wish to be disturb. Lucky for them, the dateline was on 26 July, 7.00pm.

I’m getting very sick of assignments, especially research assignment regarding things that do not interest me at all. I enjoy doing group assignment where work are divided and burden are lightens because everyone has their parts to play. Of course lecturer would expect us to produce a high quality work. Every semester there will be at least 2 assignments for each subject as an in-course work.

College Idol

On July 19 (Monday), Wrigley held an event on "College Idol" at APIIT, Technology Park Malaysia, which is similar to our very own "Malaysian Idol". But there are no judges to comment on your singing and no one will turn you down if you sing like a toads.

Those who wish to participate in this talent search competition will have to purchase a package of Wrigley chewing gum along with the participation form. Participants can either choose to perform solo or in groups. Lyric and music are provided on selected songs. On the other hand, participants are allowed to sing any song of their choice. Performances are recorded for judges to determine the winners. And of course, there are 6 fabulous prices to be won.

1st Prize, Cash RM8,000 x 2
2nd Prize, Cash RM3,000 x 2
3rd Prize, Cash RM1,000 x 2

Two of my classmates took part in the challenge and they both sang "When You Say Nothing At All" by Ronan Keating in solo. The whole class were there to give them support but it turn out that we make them even more nervous.

When it comes to talent search competition, obviously there will be some good and bad ones. Some were very good at singing with good control of voice and some turn out to be a real disappointment. Well, at least they tried their best. This interesting event attracts many attentions and the place was packed with students especially during break hours.

Commercial

Honda Commercial

This is an interesting commercial that sent by a friend. It's amazing how everything looks so perfect. It's too good to be true. I'm sure it has been tested million of times before they get it 100% accurate. :)

College Life

My first semester of college’s classes have been carried out for 2 months and it will end somewhere during November. In this semester, I’m taking 5 subjects which include – Practical IT Skills, Computer Technology, Business Environment, Practical English and Malaysian Studies (LAN subject). Every subject there will be 50% to 60% of examination and the balance will be in-course works which are assignments, group discussion, participations, and presentation.

Students were told that by focusing on lecturers’ notes itself will not help to get a Distinction (D) but only a Pass (P) or Credit (C). That’s why they are encouraged to read up some texts and research to improve their understanding to obtaining higher grades in exam. By doing this, students learn that good grades can be obtain through hard work and not just plain memorising without understanding. Furthermore, they become more mature and aware of what is happening around. This applies for all Universities, except for some colleges. The previous college that I attended was more flexible where students can easily obtain 100% by just reading and memorising notes. In this way, students might not fully understand the concept or the learning outcome from what is tough.

Being in a professional environment, the college has set some rules about dressing code and spoken language. For the gents, their hair are not allowed to touch the collar. For the ladies, they are not allowed to wear tight and revealing cloths. For both sexes, they are not allowed to wear jeans, t-shirt, coloured their hair and to speak mother tongue (other than Bahasa and English). The main reason is to maintain the professional image, which the college believes that students that dress professionally, mentally they are prepared to face the working field.

Fishes

Some people believe that having fishes will bring them luck but for some people is plainly hobby and pet lover. I think rearing fishes is the easiest things to do. All you have to do is to get an aquarium, all the equipment and then leave the aquarium empty for a few days before putting fishes in it. What do I know about rearing fishes? That’s just my point of view.

Usually we human rear pets to keep us company. To some pet lover, having a pet is having a new member in the family. The relationship between them and their pet are very strong and they are very much attacked to each other. On the other hand, we can’t relate that to fishes. Fishes doesn’t even know their owner. All they know is that when someone approaches the aquarium, they are expecting to be fed.

Admitting Mistake

We all know that everyone on earth has committed sins ever since from the day we are born (except for Christ Jesus). This is due to the fall of man – Adam and Eve. I’m sure no one needs to attend a “lying class in order to tell a lie. We just do it just to escape from trouble.

What do you consider a sin? Basically anything that we shouldn’t do, for example, stealing, lying, losing temper, murdering, thinking something bad / dirty and etc.

In many cases, temper is the hardest to control. Often we lose our temper because we couldn’t get the things we wanted or we are being scolded by elderly. Often we tend to throw our tantrum towards others and in return, we hurt end up hurting more people around us.

After committing a sin, deep inside human instinct, we do feel guilty after what we’ve done. Even thought the sin may look so small. It can be as innocent as reading someone else’ mail without permission. Well, we do know of some people who do not feel guilty after committing a crime. It’s really a sad case for them not being able to differentiate what is right and what is wrong. What have happen to all of the moral values that we’ve learn?

Every human has its pride. Being able to admit that he or she is wrong is hardest thing to do although he or she may know it deep inside them. Between a grown up and a child, the grown up will never admit that he or she is wrong to a child who is younger than them. They believe that if they apologise, they have lost their pride.

Google or elgooG?

I’m sure we have come across articles or jokes that are written backward? But have you ever read anything that is written backward on the web?

Try this out:
1) Go to www.google.com
2) Type in “elgoog on the column
3) Click the bottom “I’m feeling lucky

You will be amazed by what you see.

Making Decision

It’s funny sometime I wonder how I got myself to where I am now. Wonder maybe I could have made a better decision in the past. Often I face many cross road in life and some wise friend of mine would approach me and tell me that I’ve made a mistake. I know I can’t believe 100% what I heard. It’s still my decision. They can only give me their point of view from their perspective. Probably what I want may not be good for me. Probably what I do not want may be good for me. I don’t know.

The decisions that we make may cause rejections, failures, embarrassments, or even losing our own dignity. Ever decisions that we make in life will have either good or bad consequences.

For example, William Hung may think he made a brave move by entering “American Idol and think that he may be short listed. I would say making the first move takes confident and self-assurance, believing in himself the he would success. I’m sure everyone would think like him before entering “American Idol. So often we think we can, but from many others point of view, we are just not good enough or not even near at all. But that did not stop William for being worldwide famous, he’s now known for making the fool out of themselves. I’m sure no one wants to be known for being foolish. I know I don’t. What we’re not aware is that, this guy is making lots of money out of it – making money by being laugh at.

Once, I was like this man. I thought I was good, qualify and all. But eventually, I found out that I’m not even near there. My friend was right about asking me to think twice but I didn’t listen. I wasted my time and money by putting effort in it. I’m sure there are so many others out there who are better than me – I would say, 100% much better than me. Guess I will have to face rejection and disappointment. *sigh* But everything that I’ve learned are not wasted, at least I learned something.

Black Out

In this modern world, everything is run by electricity. We could hardly find things that do not run by electricity, except for telephone and everything that run by battery.

Can you image how it would be like if your house does not have electricity for whole day? Besides complaining being hot and bored, I remember the old days when there was no electricity my parents and I would get occupied with board games or just hang out else where, where there is electricity. I miss the old days. Unfortunately, we do not do that anymore.

I remember I was afraid of the dark when I was much younger. Not being able to find our parents in the dark is our worst nightmare. Well, that was me back then. I’m very much grown up now. But there’s one phobia that I haven’t over come are heights and depth.

Inclusive Invatation (Updated)

Inclusive Concert

Youth Concert 2004 | 24 July 2004, Sat | 6.30pm - 9.00pm | Calvary Church
2, Jalan Damansara Endah, Damansara Heights, 50490 Kuala Lumpur

Senior Pastor Rev. Datuk Dr. Prince Guneratnam

THE CONCERT
Through generations, we recognise a deep void in our lives. We thirst for meaning: the creator, the lover of our soul. This deep thirst, has been expressed regardless of age, race, culture, and most vividly pictured through music. In this language that knows no bounds, our ministry exist. This concert is birthed from deep desire to share with you what WE have found in common with God. A deep desire to share our experience of finding a renewed sense of God, being now able to have meaning through Him.

So we invite you to this concert, an invitation that is never exclusive. Only inclusive, for we were once included, the reconciled and now, we make His appeal to you.

2 Corinthians 5:18-20
"All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, no counting men's sins against them. And he was committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God."
