I Was That Ulgy Little Kid Who Turned Up At Nuffnang’s Silent Halloween

November 6th 2008 -

I kid you NOT! Haha…

My Halloween costume (the bloody mummy) was inspired by one of Kev’s photo. To dress up as a mummy, there are several way to source from. You can either rent/purchase those ready made. Or , you can look up on some DIY Halloween costume online. Else, you could easily go to any nearby pharmacy to purchase bandages that look like these…

These bandages come in different length and sizes. There are also two (2) colours to choose from, white or brown (skin colour). The one I used were brown (skin colour) in colour.

Below are some of the items that I used to prepare the whole mummy outfit.

  1. Brown and black poster colour to coloured the bandages - to create the dirty effect by soaking the bandages with coloured water
  2. Black eyeliner - to colour one eye
  3. Thread and needle - to sew the bandages together
  4. A pair of socks
  5. Fake blood
  6. A singlet
  7. A short / tube / boxer (anything that you’re comfortable wearing as bottom)
  8. Bandages (as many as you need. For me, I used up 9 bandages. )

After dying the socks and bandages, there are how they look like. If you want it to be dirtier, add more black to it. Make sure you hang it to dry before putting it on.

I cut holes between the singlet and tube to get the torn and rugged look. While I wrapped the bandages around my body, I sew the bandages onto each other to hold them together instead of using the clips (that came along with the bandage).

Next, don’t forget black colour nails. To make it look creepy. After all, it’s Halloween.

After I’m done with the wrapping. I added fake blood to make it look scary. And smear some black poster colour on some of the skin surface to create the dirty look.

** Note: Because the bandages, socks, tube, singlet are dyed in colour. I had to wash my hands several times as well as mop the floor when I get on and off the washroom.

My Halloween costume was specially prepared for Nuffnang’s Silent Halloween event. The whole costume took me about two (2) days to prepared. It was one of my first Halloween party and I really had a great time dressing up. Well, this is one of the rare occasion where you can dressed up as ugly as you like and no one will call the cop to report you in can walking devil. LOL! Just kidding

At the party, I met few other monsters who were some what like me. Sort of. Just kidding.. :p

Robert, the human-like vampire, whose cries blood tears. Haha… I just made that up.

Ringo, the beautiful Marilyn Monroe.

Here we have Simon a.k.a. Black Jack.

Tarzen?

Klubbkidd a.k.a. Kurt Cobain

And Robb, the rather clean but scary mummy.

I didn’t really get to take many photos that night because most of the time was trying to make sure my bandages do not fall off. LOL.

even though i didn’t know who you were, i asked around as i thought you were a shoo in for finalist as least. shame you didn’t even get a mention. the amount of effort in your look, and thought, as well as the finished effect was both cute and scary. wanna dress up in theme with you next nuffnang party!

    PS thanks for the link.

  7. klubbkidd Says:

PS ruion, i think everyone deserved a win. besides, anyone tak puas hati can always blame chokia… i mean nokia. LOL!

  8. ruionkoh Says:

    klubbkidd:
Yeah everyone who dressed is a winner ^^ haha yeah blame nokia not me *innocent* lol
klubbkidd had one of the top costume either ^^

  9. Celine Says:

First of all, I want to thank everyone who had commented. I did had fun scaring some of you at the party. Haha…

Secondly, I think winning is as subjective as an art piece. Not everyone has the same taste. Like klubbkidd say, everyone deserved to win. And also agree with ruionkoh that everyone is a winner in the competition.

Although honestly I can say that I was a little disappointed with the result, having to put so much effort in preparing the costume and driving all over down town with Jeff to haunt for costumes and ideas. As Nuffnang has stated clearly in their blog post the following words:-

    “Good if you scare us.

Great if you make us scream.

But if you can make us want to run away in fear, give us nightmares for a week and never want to be alone in the dark again, then you’re our Scariest Blogger!”

I thought I would put a little more effort in dressing up. And probably spend a little money. I’m not saying others didn’t go through the trouble to get their costumes done.

But then again the event has already ended. No point pointing fingers at anyone. At the end of the day, the most important thing is that everyone had a great time as well as getting to meet new friends. And I sure had a great time! Good to know a lot more people this round.

PS: And yes klubbkidd, let’s dressed up for next nuffnang party.

  10. Simon Seow Says:

Wow, that’s really lot of work you put in for the costume.

  11. Horizon Says:

U look scary. Anyway, did anyone know it was u? I mean you wrapped yourself with all the bandage, if I’m there, I’m not able to recognize you.

  12. Celine Says:

Horizon: Haha… Not at first. But those who have seen my mummy’s pic or recognise my voice or know my height would have guessed. Haha…

  13. Jeff Says:

muahahaha.. that’s gotta be one of the scariest mummy there..
Hmmm.. come and think about it.. ur the only female mummy back then right?
    Awesome!

but that looks like a lot of WORK for the DIY!!! *pats on the back* *salutes*

  14. klubbkidd Says:

yeah well, celine… remember, next party we tag team and kill ‘em all. LOL!

see, i understood the description the same way you did. scary… i thought that was the key word. owh never mind. in my case i heard it’s cause i already won as the joker for the dark knight premiere… so nokia didn’t want me to win again.

but in your case, i was kinda pissed cause you deserved some recognition for your effort.

i guess some people think renting a costume is better, as we’re all DIY. but honestly, i’d like to see someone do what you did, in half the time even. my process took about two hours or so, but it would take a pro more time than that to recreate the effect.

so yeah… que sera sera. we move on.

just next party, remember, we make like captain planet, and let our powers combine. LOL!

PS - celine me turned BLUBBkidd? LOL!

PS Pt 2 - ruinokoh - never blamed you dude, me always blamed the sponsors. LOL! cause they chose.

  15. Celine Says:

klubbkidd: Oops, sorry about the typo. *Corrected

Well, I guess the same sponsor can’t award the same person twice, can they? That one is understandable. But then again, can’t blame the sponsors. Maybe they didn’t notice me at the party because I was small and short (it’s a disadvantage) and I wasn’t as out going as the three nominees. Oh well…

  16. Jerry Ong Says:

Mummy Return ! cool Halloween costume

  17. Soon Seng Says:

Hey there! Kudos to the semangat mummy! haha.. It was terribly realistic…

  18. xjion89 Says:

Oh my, ur look is super cool! (^^)
