Time Out KL: On The Up

Last Wednesday on the 19th of November, I attended Time Out KL: On The Up at No Black Tie. I’ve heard of No Black Tie from a friend who previously had performed there, but I personally have never been there.

For those who have not been there, No Black Tie is located same row as Palate Palette Restaurant and Bar.

Address: 7 Jalan Mesui, off Jalan Nagasari, 50200 Kuala Lumpur

No Black Tie is a very nice and cozy place to chill out after a busy day at work with friends. I like how the overall look of their interior and the ambiance is just right. Their sound system were good too.

At No Black Tie, the night just never sleeps. They have music performances every day of each month. Seriously, I’m sure you’ve seen the schedule. So everyday is never boring.

My friends and I arrived at the place really early that night to get our tables. Because I was told that the place is usually packed. Even if you’ve reserved a table but arrived late, you might not event get a place. And seriously, it was packed. Where else in KL can you find such places that have good music every night?

The night kicked off with the first performance by An Honest Mistake. They music were catchy and I think they have a lot of potential to grow in the music industry. For some angle, the vocalist looks a little like my friend.

Next performance were by The Bassment Syndicate. No vocals for this one, just instrument. They started off by playing a song called “How Deep Is Your Love” and that one really got the crowd’s attention. The song is still in my head actually. Like that one. I thought it was really sentimental. If you’re into Jazz music, you might just enjoy their music.

And coming up is performance by Alaling and the Kaya Koks. Alaling has a really beautiful voice. One of the song she sang was “Facebook“. I thought that one was cute. Especially the part where the lyric goes, “… I want to poke you, and poke you and superpoke you on Facebook…” and “… I want to buy and sell you and buy and sell you again on Friends For Sale…”. Something like that.

Alaling and the Kaya Koks are no strangers to some of us as she previously had performed at several events such as the most recent Nokia Nuffnang Silent Halloween.

The last performance for that night was by Rendra Zawawi and his band. Frankly speaking, I thought their performance were one of the best that night. Oh my must they always keep the best for the last.

That night I went back home exhausted. Although I may had a lazy afternoon that day but the whole music scene somehow added some spices to my boring day. Haha… I’ve always wanted to attend music performances as such but never really gotten the chance because not many people that I know were into those kind of music.

Overall, I think the that local music artists and bands have a lot of potential. Just very a pity that that not many people have heard of them.

For those who would like to join us at the next Time Out KL: On the Up. Do mark down your calendar on the 17th of December.
